Level 1: Introductory Scent

Class Overview

In this 75-minute introductory session, you’ll get an overview of scent work, learn about equipment and odor hygiene, review reward development, and introduce your dog to their first target odor: birch. You’ll take part in a variety of scent activities that introduce and reinforce birch, with each exercise adjusted to fit the needs of every dog so they can learn comfortably and build confidence at their own pace. Introductory Scent must be completed before starting Beginner Scent. Designed for teams new to scent work or those with a brief introduction, most dogs will take this class just once. Included in the cost, students receive birch and additional practice materials to use both at home and as they progress through Beginner classes. Class Prerequisites: Dogs must be over 16 weeks of age. Dogs must be current on required vaccinations, which are outlined by age in our Vaccination Policy on the FAQ page. Dogs should be able to eagerly eat treats in a group environment. Dogs should not bark/lunge at people or dogs.
