Nosework Seminar

Kayla Dever KPA-CTP is the owner and lead trainer at Every Dog Nosework in Rochester Hills, MI. Kayla is an NACSW Certifying Official, judge and host for ORTS and trials, a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner, is TagTeach-certified and has worked with many nosework teams from the introductory to summit levels.
Outside of nosework, Kayla is a registered nurse working in oncology.
Prior to her nosework career, Kayla worked extensively with multiple guide and service dog organizations, has owned and handled certified therapy dogs since 2005 and has an extensive background in behavior training and preparing working dogs. Kayla has titled her 3 canine partners (black Labrador Retrievers Brennan and Davey and Shetland Sheepdog Flynn) all to Elite Champion and both labs to multiple Summit titles, all with overall placements. She’s also earned multiple overall placements at all levels with multiple dogs. Her lab Brennan was the first dog in the country to earn the Elite Premier (ELT-P) title.
She is currently actively competing at the Summit and Elite Premier levels in NACSW, but has titled to the highest levels in multiple other nosework venues (AKC, UKC, CPE).
Kayla believes that nosework is for every dog and focuses her teaching on supporting both ends of the leash.

Morning Session: Put it In Drive- Essentials for Successful Vehicle Searches

Whether you are a new team just starting out searching vehicles or are a team wanting stronger vehicle foundations, this workshop is for you!
This workshop will:
- discuss the basics of odor movement on and around vehicles
- work foundation exercises to help your dog build skills required for vehicle searches
- discuss handling on vehicles to maximize team work and coverage without diminishing independence
- weather permitting, put it all into action with actual vehicle searches

Does the thought of “unknown number” searches strike fear in your heart? This workshop is a peak behind the curtain of successfully navigating “unknown” searches and begins to give you the tools to call “finish” with confidence!
This workshop will:
- work some foundation exercises that build dog skills essential to successful searching
- discuss the basics of search area coverage
- watch dogs search in known scenarios so we can review common things we see when dogs are in blank areas or have found all there is to find
- experience an unknown search with coaching to talk through your own dog’s body language when working an unknown and blind search
